Most development approvals have already been obtained for initial development at the UC MBEST Center. The following is a list of development approvals to date:

  • In April of 1997 the Regents of the University of California approved the UC MBEST Center Master Plan as it pertains to the Central North and West campuses of the MBEST Center.
  • In 1997 the Fort Ord Reuse Authority approved the Fort Ord Reuse Plan, which incorporates by reference the UC MBEST Center Master Plan.
  • In October of 2000 the City of Marina adopted a General Plan Update that reflects the land uses set forth in the MBEST Center Master Plan for the Central North and West campuses (the remainder of the UC MBEST Center is outside of the City of Marina).
  • In April of 2001 the California Department of Fish and Game issued a 30-year Incidental Take Permit for state-listed endangered species allowing development on nearly all of UC MBEST Center lands.
  • In April of 2001 the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service issued a letter approving development on nearly all UC MBEST Center lands.

A Tentative Map covering the Central North and West campuses is being filed with the City of Marina. A Final Map will be filed by the UC MBEST Center's developer partner in the near future.

As new UC MBEST Center tenants are identified and approved, the developer partner will obtain design review approvals and building permits from the City of Marina.
